Mario Kart Wii

I will be explaining how to play Mario Kart Wii online in Dolphin on a iMac.

This tutorial requires an iMac and a real Wii.

This tutorial does not get into the details of each step. If you require more details, Google is your friend.

Getting Mario Kart Wii to start

  1. Install the latest version of Dolphin.
  2. Download Mario Kart Wii in a folder.
  3. Open Dolphin, click Config, go to the Folders tab and add the folder you put Mario Kart Wii in.

Controllers

If you want to play with your keyboard/mouse, click Controllers and set Wiimote 1 to "Emulated Wiimote".

Else, follow my guide to connect real Wiimotes and/or GameCube controllers.

Wiimmfi

If you want to play online, you must patch the game so it connects to Wiimmfi's servers instead of Nintendo's.

You can do so with Wiimmfi's ISO patcher.

Once the game is patched, move the unpatched game elsewhere and replace it with the patched one.

To know if the game was properly patched, make sure that "Wiimmfi" is written on the screen :

Importing a NAND backup.

If you try to play online at this stage, it will not work. Wiimmfi blocks Dolphin by default.

The way around this is to make a NAND backup of a real Wii and import it in Dolphin.

To make a NAND backup, you must first "hack" the Wii.

The easiest way to hack a Wii is to use LetterBomb and install BootMii.

To start the HackMii Installer, copy the files to an SD card, insert the SD card into the Wii and click on the red envelope.

BootMii can be installed as either boot2 or IOS.

To install as boot2, your Wii must be old enough to have a vulnerable boot1.

Once BootMii is installed and launched, make a NAND backup. This will take a few minutes.

This will leave a nand.bin file on the SD card. You may now import that into Dolphin.

Playing online should now work.
